Food Sovereignty is the right of peoples to healthy and culturally appropriate food produced through ecologically sound and sustainable methods, and their right to define their own food and agriculture systems." It is rooted in grassroots food movements (like ours) and the need for a democratic food system that involves input from everyone from producers to consumers.

Our Co-operative is dedicated to nourishing our community and tackling local food insecurity head-on through community-based solutions. We work closely with partners across Tantramar and Atlantic Canada. We have been widely recognized for innovation, community engagement, and for operating a sustainable social enterprise. Our largest food security undertaking to date is the development of a new Community Food Hub, opening officially in April 2024, which will serve as our centre for all things food-related. Keep your eyes open for things like pay-what-you-can cafe, farmers market, local food retail outlet, specialty cuisine teaching kitchens, workshops, and so much more! Also situated in the Food Hub is Station8 Community Fridge that provides vegetables, fruit, fish, meat, dairy and grains to anyone in the community who needs it. It is anonymous, open 7 days a week, and stocked several times a day. It serves up to 100 people per week and is made possible through the support of a corporate donor and the work of dozens of volunteers.

To increase food literacy, we also offer many other cool events like Food Foraging Walks, Medicine-Making workshops, BBQs, and our recently published Community Cookbook full of affordable, healthy local recipes!

This volunteer-driven program provides monthly bags of vegetables and fruit to citizens for $16 (valued up to $40 in retail stores) as part of a provincial bulk-purchasing program that we are engaged in with other community organizations across New Brunswick. Contact us to find out how you can get your monthly bag of produce!
